If I have observed the sun when it shines, or the moon moving in brightness, so that my heart has been secretly enticed, and my mouth kissed my hand; this would be an iniquity deserving of judgment, for I would have denied God who is above.

Job 31:26-28

We live in a time where a lot about the world has already been unraveled for us. But do we consider the knowledge of such discoveries? Do we investigate the understanding that governs each of our lives? Do we recognize, acknowledge, or even believe that mere discoveries about the world that governs us in a particular way hold value?

When considering time, it is an area that is heavily spiritual or religious, yet, overall, the general public only recognizes it as mundane. However, time is, was, and has been set by God for a purpose. Time has a design. For this cause, time has significance and is religious. Because of this, time can be utilized and interpreted differently. So, let us take a closer, biblical, and worldly look at time to explore these things.

Ultimately, men have based their understanding of time on the means that God has established — the heavens. The heavens have been the predominant means of men identifying time . . .

Then God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years. — Genesis 1:14

Adam held much of this knowledge and understanding . . . So, when this writing says “man,” it is sometimes a reference to him . . . For Adam was first made in God’s image, and he demonstrated that he had the thoughts and mind and Word of God the day he was made. Genesis 2:19 demonstrates this. God brought every beast of the field and bird of the air before Adam “to see what he would call them.” And the Scriptures say that whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name . . . God tested man, whom he made, to see if man could or would accurately name every beast of the field and bird of the air the Lord God formed out of the ground. So Adam was created having a magna cum laude (“with great distinction”) intelligence of the world because he was made to have dominion over all that God created within it (Genesis 1:26-27). Yet, Adam sinned and lost God’s image and likeness (Genesis 5:1, 3) in the nine hundred and thirty years of his earthly residence . . . (Genesis 4:5). Notwithstanding, Adam lived as a sinner, having this magna cum laude intelligence from God but never coming to repentance and so choosing to never return to fellowship with God: “And the LORD said, ‘My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years” (Genesis 6:3).

So, all of this is pertinent to time because, depending on one’s heart, the mind —  no matter how bright or dark — follows suit and operates. Hence, an antediluvian incursion of the Scriptures occurs, shining light on this with Adam, which we do not think much of, but the Scriptures directly tie the two together: that Adam lived as a sinner, and the spirit realm committed a heinous entry with humanity, saying,

Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And the LORD said, ‘My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years. (Genesis 6:1-3)
